Dental Hygienist Schools In Illinois

A degree from one of the many dental hygienist schools in Illinois opens up many job opportunities throughout the state, as dentistry is one of the few industries currently expanding and hiring more than ever.

Most dental hygienist schools are two-year programs offering an associate’s degree in dental hygiene. All of these programs require a high school diploma in order to apply, and many require between one and four credits of prerequisite college courses in subjects like biology and chemistry. Courses cover anatomy, radiology, periodontics, materials, and public health, among other things. Graduates are then eligible to take the required written and clinical exams to gain certification for the state of Illinois. One of the most popular dental assisting schools in Illinois is the program offered by the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.

A few four-year colleges offer bachelor’s degrees in dental hygiene. Certification upon graduation is the same, but coursework is more in-depth and opportunities for clinical practice more abundant. Southern Illinois University offers one of the few dental hygienist schools in Illinois.
