Dental Hygienist Schools In New York

Dental hygienist schools in New York provide the education and clinical experience for students who aspire to work in the field of dental hygiene. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs in dental hygiene is expected to grow by 36 percent from 2008 to 2018, which is much higher than average for all jobs. There are a number of dental hygienist programs in the state of New York, located at colleges and universities throughout the state.

New York offers dental hygienist programs at both private and public schools. Students who prefer a public dental hygienist school might consider Farmingdale State College, which offers prospective dental hygiene students two dental hygienist programs to choose from: an associate’s degree in dental hygiene and a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. Dental hygiene students in the bachelor’s degree program will gain their required clinical experience at a local clinic, hospital or public health facility before the completion of their degree.

The State University of New York at Canton, a public university, also offers associate’s and bachelor’s degree dental hygiene programs. This school is unique in that it offers an online bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene that is one hundred percent online for students who already have an associate’s degree from a dental hygienist school. Students in these dental hygiene programs will gain clinical experience at the Veteran’s Memorial Outpatient Medical Facility located near the University.

Dental hygienist schools in New York also include programs at private universities. New York University, located in New York City, boasting the largest enrollment of any private American college, offers both an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. Students who participate in these dental hygienist programs will gain clinical experience during an internship at Goldwater Memorial Hospital, also located in the city.
